The main shopping strip in Yogyakarta, Jl. Malioboro, is set to be closed to public vehicles from Dec. 31 to provide more comfortable and secure conditions for tourists as well as local residents while welcoming the New Year.

From Thursday morning, the eastern side of Jl. Malioboro will reportedly be dedicated to pedestrians.

According to Jl. Malioboro’s technical management unit head Syarif Teguh, tens of thousands of tourist vehicles were moving around the city.
